Our Rights
Though currently inactive, Edwin J. Valant has been an officer of the Arizona Supreme Court since 1974 and an officer of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals and therefore, every court inferior to, since 1978.
He believes that prisoners, and all of us, must develop a thorough understanding of our human rights in order to preserve and/or restore them.
He reminds us that the U. S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights guarantee our human rights==in both federal and state statutes.
"It's not that we don't have the rights, it's that we don't assert them because we are afraid. They can do to us whatever we can't stop them from doing," he states with deep conviction.
Mr. Valant completed undergraduate work at Lehigh University, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi and Beta Gamma Sigma.
After service to his country in the U. S. Army Signal Corps, he graduated from the University of Arizona Law School.
His legal career includes being a member of the Federal Defense Panel,a prosecutor for the Office of the Pima County Attorney, Tucson, Arizona and an associate of the Pima County Attorney in Juvenile Court. Mr. Valant later began devoting his time to the oppressed in his Tucson, AZ private practice, where he resides today.
